This was an important test for the Equality Act in relation to taxis. Mr Miah, a driver licensed by Torbay Council, refused to take two visually impaired passengers and their two guide dogs (there was also a third ‘retired’ guide dog). Torbay revoked his licence and he appealed to the magistrates’ court.
Solicitors acting on behalf of Mr Miah presented numerous arguments both factual and legal in defence of their client, all of which Roy successfully met. The revocation was upheld and an order made in full for the Council’s costs.
