Unlawful killing and justice after acquittal – what can the law do?

The public is normally concerned about wrongful convictions. In the light of the recent contentious acquittal of Donald McPherson following the death of his wife Paula Leeson, Leslie Blohm QC considers the position where an acquittal leaves the family of a person who has died believing that justice has not been done by the verdict of a criminal court. Is the assumption of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ the end of it, or does the legal system have something else to say?
