St John’s Chambers is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew White as Head of Chambers. Matthew takes over from Susan Hunter who has stepped down after 7 years in the role but continues as an active member of Chambers with a full-time practice in family law. Matthew will be assisted by Leslie Blohm QC and newly elected Judi Evans as Deputy Heads of Chambers, with wider support provided by the Management Board.
Matthew is widely recognised as a leading barrister with a formidable reputation and has been described by clients as ‘forensically thorough’. His practice spans a number of Chambers’ core areas, in particular personal injury, highways, inquests, professional negligence and mediation. He is co-author of the Personal Injury Bar Association Guide to Pension Loss Calculation, and has been on the Attorney General’s panel of counsel to the Crown for 20 years. Matthew brings a great deal of Chambers management experience to the role, having been a member of the Chambers Management Board, including as Treasurer for many years, and more recently as Deputy Head.
Sue has left me with big shoes to fill, and we are all really grateful to her for her dedication and leadership. Having been a member of Chambers since the late 90s, I am delighted and proud to be asked and trusted to do the job. St John’s has continued to be the go-to chambers for legal advice outside London, leading the way in particular in chancery/commercial, family, and personal injury/ clinical negligence law. We have grown in strength and numbers under Sue’s leadership, and I intend to continue to build on that work, not only with the provision of legal expertise, but also with our commitment to equality, diversity and wellbeing at the Bar.”
