Harry Spurr, barrister and mediator in commercial, civil and property disputes, has launched a new mediation channel, offering brief insights into conflict resolution. Aimed primarily at professionals representing parties at mediation, his ultra-short podcasts are filled with valuable tips on strategy and insights into conflict psychology. Harry will be publishing new episodes regularly throughout the coming months.
Topics include:
- First offers at mediation: taking the plunge – Parties at mediation are often reluctant to make the first offer. Here are three reasons why it might work out better for you to take the plunge.
- From Savannah to settlement: the psychology of property disputes – Why is it that disputes concerning land generate so much hostility? It seems to come down to evolution, or a lack of it…
- Mediation mistakes: pushing too hard – In the first of Harry’s episodes on common mistakes in mediation, he looks at what happens when we push the other side too hard, and why it rarely works out in our favour.
- Are you listening?! How ’lending your ears’ could transform your mediation settlement rate – Find out why listening to what the other side has to say could improve your chances of getting a good deal, albeit not for the reasons you might expect…
- Consistency, and how it affects mediation outcomes – Humans have a strong desire for consistency – to experience it, and to demonstrate it. In this podcast, I explain why and how this affects mediation outcomes, and how to respond.
‘A Moment on Mediation’ podcast channel can be found here.
You can also listen to these podcasts on Apple and Spotify.
Harry is regularly commended by parties for his mediation style, and in particular his calming influence and capacity to challenge sensitively but robustly. He is described as “at the top of his profession”, “highly skilled” and “outstanding”. Read more here.
