Who Should Attend?
Last year we told you about the publication of the Personal Injury Bar Association Guide to Pension Loss Calculation, co-authored by Matthew White at St John’s. Now for the movie tie-in! Matthew has put together a 1.5-hour webinar to cover many of the practical issues arising to enable you to calculate pension loss and avoid the common mistakes. The video covers dealing with money purchase schemes, defined benefit schemes, and loss of state pension. It is indexed, so when you know your way around you can go straight to the part that you want. Worked examples are provided, along with an explanation of what should and should not be deducted from a claim. There is a bonus section on manipulating multipliers using the 8th edition of the Ogden tables.
The video is aimed at solicitors handling any personal injury claim in which there has been a loss of earnings: it is necessary to consider loss of pension in all such cases. The video explains all likely claims in sufficient detail to enable you to avoid the pitfalls brought about by not understanding how loss of pension works.
Surgery day
Matthew has set aside time on Friday 26th March 2021 and will run short appointment-based surgeries for solicitors via Microsoft Teams to discuss questions arising from the video, or any issues with pension loss claims on which you would value a steer. He does not plan to do a public Q&A to avoid any problems with conflicts of interest. At the ‘surgery’ your question can start with the words “I’ve got a case…” without worrying about who else is listening. Please send an email to [email protected] with a brief description of what you would like to discuss and we will try to find you a time slot – do express a preference for time if you have one and we will try to accommodate. Matthew will be happy to meet with more than one member of your team for general training purposes if you wish to discuss an issue with your team too.
